Weekend mini-tour to Lachlan Valley
The Country Riders group invites riders to join in a weekend tour to Goulburn via Tarago and, the next day, to Gunning via Breadalbane following the picturesque Lachlan Valley railway route, before returning to Canberra. This mini-tour will be held over the weekend of Saturday, 18 November and Sunday, 19 November 2017.
Meet: 7.45 am, Saturday, 18 November for an 8 am start, at Vallance Place, COOK, a quiet residential area with street parking and more parking nearby, then hit out along the GDE to our next meeting point.
OR meet the group at the Veterinary Hospital, on the Barton Highway near the Northbourne Avenue intersection, at 8.45 am. Please do not park any vehicles at the Veterinary Hospital. OR meet the group at the big roundabout on the Federal Highway intersecting the northern end of Antill Street, WATSON, at 9.05 am.
Please arrive before time at each meeting point and confirm your point of departure beforehand to the ride leader.
Riders taking part must be comfortable with riding a distance of 122 km on the first day and 129 km on the second day. However, riders may join in for the first or second days only. Non-riding partners and guests are invited to enjoy dinner with the group at Goulburn.
The tour is on sealed roads with undulating rural landscapes, except for a 10 km unsealed but firm section of the Parkesbourne and Breadalbane Roads near Goulburn. We will avoid highway travel as far as possible, but riders must be comfortable on sometimes busy country roads with fast passing traffic.
There will be stops to take good food and drink in Bungendore (Food Lovers’ Market), Tarago (Loaded Dog Hotel), Goulburn (overnight, dinner at the Paragon), Gunning (Merino Café) and Gundaroo (Cork Street Café).
Accommodation in Goulburn is very tight for the weekend of our tour. For accommodation options, see the attached Goulburn accommodation guide. You are advised to make early arrangements.
The attached maps show the routes Canberra-Goulburn via Tarago and Goulburn-Canberra via Gunning and details of the approach roads to Goulburn showing some places of accommodation.
Riders signing on for the tour must be self-supporting (there is no ‘sagwagon’) and must carry 2 or 3 spare tubes, tools, water, snacks, pump, lights, phone, clothing, sun protection and first aid. However, to lighten the load, space will be made available by arrangement in a supporter’s vehicle to carry overnight bags to Goulburn on the Friday and back on the Sunday.
Registration for the ride only closes with the ride leader on Wednesday, 15 November 2017. You book your accommodation yourself to suit your requirements.
