Big Canberra Bike Ride

7.45am for 8.30am, Canberra Day 2005 - March 21, 2004

The biggest community ride of the year - in its 9th year!

It is an easy 25km 'on road' sign-posted a leisurely family ride around the streets of inner Canberra.  The ride is designed to be suitable for everyone – young, not so young, families and friends.  It's not a race, but a fun activity for all. Free morning tea is available at the half way point and food and drink are available at the finish.  There is a shortcut after 15 km from the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge to the finish.  So if you think 25 km is too long or you get tired, take the shortcut.

Safety and comfort was our priority in designing the ride that is fully approved by the authorities. However, riders under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult and that all participants must sign (or agree to) the declaration before the start that states that you understand the risks of bicycle riding and indemnifies the organisers.

The ride starts at Blundell's Cottage on the northern shores of Lake Burley Griffin with access from Constitution Avenue into Wendouree Drive. Parking is available in the Anzac Park offices car park off Constitution Avenue.

The route and start area map can be downloaded.
The route follows Anzac Parade into Limestone Avenue and Majura Avenue to the Dickson Tradesmans Club where free refreshments will be available.  The route then turns south along Northbourne Avenue (on the new cycle lanes) and across Commonwealth Avenue Bridge into picturesque Yarralumla, past Parliament House and back over Kings Avenue Bridge. On arrival at the finish you will receive a certificate and bag of super goodies. Food and drinks will be available at the finish.

Time to complete the ride should be between one to two hours depending on your speed and route preference.
