On Sunday 28 May, Pedal Power ACT is hosting a country ride to Wamboin for wine-tasting & greenways sight-seeing.
The ride will be via Federal Highway to Tulip Farm, then Old Federal Highway, crossing it into Donnelly Road for a ride via the short greenway to the doorstep of the friendly Affleck Winery for wine-tasting and an opportunity, if you wish, to take away or arrange home-delivery of wines.
The ride then continues via a quiet road to Bungendore Road for a short distance, then Gum Flat Lane and Weerooona Drive until we reach greenways 6 and 7 on the below map prepared by the Bywong Community and Wamboin Community Association. (Greenway 6 starts near 1205 Norton Road. Pedal Power hasn’t tried those two greenways previously, and so it’s a new adventure, taking in woodland.)
You will then join Valleyview Lane and return to Canberra via Norton Road.
Lunch to follow the ride at Wilbur’s Bar and Cafe, Hackett shops.
Distance: 70 km; terrain undulating. Gum Flat Lane is a couple of km of smooth dirt road. The greenways traverse woodlands and sometimes pastureland, and so a cyclocross or off-road bike is best suited to the ride.
Meet: Dickson College car park, Sunday, 28 May 2017, 8.45 am for a 9.00 am start
