Going to the Australia Day Fireworks Spectacular this year? Better get there early for a good parking spot, stake your claim on a nice bit of grass with a good view preferably close to the exit to facilitate a fast getaway.
Timing is everything. You’ll miss most of the big finale fireworks so you can beat the human crush getting back to the car park. You’ll all have to run of course, chairs and eskies shoved under arms.
If you’re quick and don’t worry too much about packing properly, your car might be one of the first heading home… or not. Pretty soon you’re stuck in the inevitable and enormous traffic jam caused by that one guy turning right at the exit!
Our advice? Leave the car at home and ride instead.
The whole family can go or invite a bunch of friends to join you. You won’t have to leave home early because parking your bikes will be a breeze, and you won’t get stuck in traffic on the way home either. You may even see the big finale for once!
Why not make a day of it on Sunday 26th January? There are other events on throughout the day with plenty of safe bike paths to travel between each one (see a map online).
