A keen group of dedicated bike riders helped launch Pedal Power’s new ‘First Wanderers’ riding group last Sunday.
In true pioneering-style several hardy riders met in the wind and the rain, and braved the weather for a challenging ride from Dickson to Gold Creek last Sunday.
As the group arrived at the coffee stop, the heavens opened and the riders thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the warm and dry listening to the downpour – showing that Pedal Power’s regular rides are as much about the camaraderie and socialising, as the exercise and the feeling of satisfaction after a good ride out!
Beth Johnson, the volunteer Ride Co-ordinator, said of the inaugural ride: “The ride home was great – mostly downhill, with occasional sneaky bits of sunshine. So the First Wanderers are off and cycling – hope to see more of you out there soon!”
Like other Wanderers groups, the First Wanderers starts on Sunday mornings at 8.00am from Dickson College car park except for the last Sunday of the month when they start at the Tuggeranong College car park for a south-side ride. Most of the rides will be on the roads with occasional bike paths added in. Any type of bike is welcome. The average speed of the group will be between 18 and 22 kph (over the whole ride including hills) and the distance covered will be between 45 and 60 km, with a coffee stop along the way.
