At Pedal Power we are very happy and proud to announce our new Patron – Professor Stephen Parker, Vice Chancellor of the University of Canberra (UC).
UC is a significant sporting hub for Canberra and the region and is working hard to promote cycling as a form of transport. Professor Parker is a keen recreational rider who tries to clock up 100km per week.
He has used his first interview in his new role to call for improvements to Canberra’s network of shared off-road paths. You can read his comments here: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/cyclings-new-big-wheel-wants-more-road-room-20130622-2opu7.html
John Armstrong, Executive Officer of Pedal Power ACT, is delighted that Professor Parker is taking on the role of Patron.
“We know he is a keen bike rider, and is leading the growth of the University of Canberra as a sporting hub. We will work with him to get more Canberrans cycling more often for a better community.
“We also know that UC takes cycling as a form of transport seriously. The evidence is in their bike parking stations which are equipped with repair tools. UC has also undertaken a review of parking which involves proposals to recycle revenues in more cycling and sustainable transport facilities.
“We hope Professor Parker can play a role in inspiring other institutions to follow their lead.”
