We are looking for a Communications Manager to work closely with the Pedal Power ACT CEO, staff, volunteers and others to promote cycling for transport, recreation and fun.

The Communications Manager assumes overall responsibility for all Pedal Power ACT communications, which include:

  • Develop and implement the Pedal Power Communications strategy
  • Management of Pedal Power ACT’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Responsibility for website management including:
    • Review and update website content
    • Develop new content for the website
    • Contract and oversee a web agency to develop and amend the corporate website’s design and functionality as required
    • Oversee the revision of the website to meet the needs of our users and the organisation
  • Manage all media relations including:
    • Issue all media releases when required
    • Develop and strengthen relationships with local media
    • Pedal Power ACT event marketing and media relations
    • Act as Pedal Power ACT spokesperson when required
  • Manage publications
  • Write, edit and produce fortnightly email newsletter
  • Oversee the organisation’s magazine refresh
  • Source and write articles for the organisation’s magazine
  • Source advertising
  • In conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, Program Manager(s) and Advocacy Officer, implement effective communications strategies with key stakeholders on identified projects. The stakeholders include:
    • Sponsors of events and other advertisers/sponsors
    • Other cycling bodies
    • Relevant arms of government
    • Bike shops and other cycling outlets in the ACT
    • Members and volunteers
  • Take ownership of the organisation’s branding and style guide
  • Maintain and update a log of external publicity in print, radio, television media and the web regarding Pedal Power ACT related activities
  • Assist with the marketing of Pedal Power ACT membership, rides, events, programs and projects
  • Identify, monitor and report on communications activities to Board and the Chief Executive Officer (monthly)

 

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Qualifications in Communications or a related field
  2. Ability and experience in planning, producing and distributing effective communications including media releases, website content and social media content
  3. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  4. Capacity to be task oriented, work in a small team across a number of platforms
  5. Experience with InDesign or Photoshop
  6. Experience developing and implementing a communications plan
  7. Demonstrated initiative creativity and vision when working on multiple projects with small budgets

 

Highly Desirable

  1. Photography skills
  2. Marketing experience including:
  • The development of a marketing strategy
  • Working with other staff to create and publish marketing material to achieve organisational objectives
  • Planning and implementing promotional campaigns for activities and to increase membership
  • Monitoring and reporting on effectiveness of marketing strategies
  • Identifying and developing potential strategic partnerships for organisational marketing and sponsorship
