Rider Alert: Canberra’s Icy Bridges

During winter it is important that all bike riders remember to take extra care in freezing and potentially icy conditions.

We have had several reports from members about dangerous locations where ice on the paths is a particular hazard.

The bridges within the Parliamentary Triangle are of concern, due to new surfacing – specifically Menzies Walk near Commonwealth Park.

Pedal Power ACT has reported these concerns to the National Capital Authority, who is responsible for infrastructure within the Parliamentary Triangle. We await their response.

As frosts are occurring most mornings in Canberra recently, please maintain vigilance and use your best judgement – if necessary, it may be safest to dismount and walk your bike over these surfaces in icy conditions.

We will update you when we have heard more about how the NCA plans to address this safety issue.
