Local bike tyre importer, Rubena Tyres, has signed on as a sponsor of Pedal Power ACT and one of its hallmark events, Amy’s Big Canberra Bike Ride.
The sponsorship includes a number of incentives to help Pedal Power increase membership numbers, including a free set of tyres for every 100th renewing or new member and a 20 per cent discount on retail prices.
Rubena Tyres Director, Ben Henderson, says it’s important to get bike riders trying their product.
“Although Rubena is a trusted and well-established brand in Europe, the tyres are less known in Australia. We find that, once riders try Rubena products, they are sold. It’s a good quality product with a wide range,” explained Henderson.
The Henderson name will be familiar to a lot of Canberra people, with Ben and sister Bec competing in various cycling disciplines over the years. In 2012 Bec Henderson competed at the London Olympic Games in mountain biking on Rubena Tyres.
Ben Henderson started the importing business in 2012 after an illness sidelined him from international competition. Now he’s back doing some low-level training. Sister Bec is riding fulltime for the Trek Factory Mountain Bike Team and preparing for the Commonwealth Games in July.
Pedal Power Executive Officer, John Armstrong, says it’s great to see a local business supporting local organisations and events.
“We’re excited about this new partnership and the fact that Pedal Power members get a chance to benefit,” said Armstrong.
