TOP FIVE pedal-powered New Year’s resolutions

So, well into 2014 and still no New Year’s resolution? Maybe you resolved to get fit or lose weight but you’re not sure how to start. Well, it’s time to dust off that bike and set some specific cycling goals for 2014.  Read on for our TOP FIVE pedal-powered New Year’s resolutions.

NUMBER ONE:  Start commuting. Swap the car for a bike and enjoy free parking, better health and more money in your pocket. If it’s too far to cycle the whole way, why not drive to a free car park and cycle from there or use a bike/bus combo.

NUMBER TWO:  Introduce a friend to cycling. Invite a co-worker to join your commuting ride or just invite a bunch of friends to go cycling on the weekend. You could join one of Pedal Power’s regular social rides.

NUMBER THREE:  Take the kids cycling. There are so many cool places to ride with kids in Canberra. Younger children love the kids track at Stromlo Forrest Park (compete with mini-roads and a playground) or try a lap of Lake Burley Griffin. Resolve to ride with the kids to school a couple of days a week.

NUMBER FOUR:  Try something new. How about mountain biking or bike racing? Cycling clubs in Canberra run a range of rides and races for beginners and novices.  Try Vikings or the Canberra Cycling Club.

NUMBER FIVE:  Enter a Pedal Power event. The next one is Amy’s Big Canberra Bike Ride on Sunday 2nd March. There are four routes to choose from, with the 20km and 35km options almost entirely on closed roads and bike paths.  Great for families and young riders!
