Organising the Big Canberra Bike Ride is a massive undertaking that simply would not be possible without the dozens of volunteers who give their time to help run the event. With the Big Ride just over one week away, we still have small number of critical roles to fill, and we need your help!
So if you want to be involved in Canberra’s biggest celebration of cycling, and are not planning to join a ride, then we’d love to hear from you! We are looking for helpers at aid stations and directing riders out on the course.
Regular Pedal Power volunteer Alasdair Sinclair, is looking forward to helping out at the event (pictured bottom left).
“I started cycling just before I retired 11 years ago. Someone from Pedal Power came to my workplace to talk about riding to work and I thought I’d give it a go, even though I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was a kid.” said Alasdair. “I wasn’t particularly fit but after a few weeks I was hooked, and was riding around 20 km a day. Not long after I started joining social rides and longer trips. I’ve ridden across America and this year I’m planning to ride from Italy to Norway.
“I’m a regular volunteer at Pedal Power because I support the work they do to promote cycling as a form of transport and exercise, and I want to give something back to the organisation that has given me so much. I’ll be helping out at the registration desk at the Big Canberra Bike Ride, because it’s a nice social thing to do, to meet other volunteers and riders.”
Contact the office to find out how you can join Alasdair and the rest of the volunteer team for the Big Canberra Bike Ride.
