Pedal Power ACT has some very dedicated volunteers and the New Horizons cycling course, starting on 11 October, is no exception.

Over recent weeks, New Horizons mentor, Beth Johnston, has provided training for volunteers who are now ready to join the course.

‘Volunteers assist our accredited coaches by providing an extra layer of help and support,’ Beth said.

‘They do a lot more than packing and unpacking equipment.

‘They are trained in the basic skills we teach and how to identify if anyone needs extra one-on-one attention from the coaches.

‘Through friendship and empathy, they help people relax and learn.

‘Because volunteers have recently graduated from New Horizons, they are living examples of what you can achieve on the course.

‘A wobbly beginner can be capable of cycling from Eaglehawk to Gundaroo and back after 8 weeks with New Horizons. It’s a wonderful thing to see.’

If you know anyone who would like to improve their cycling skills and confidence, there is still time to join the New Horizons course.

Please contact the Pedal Power ACT office on 6248 7995 for more information, or see our New Horizons page for more.
