Riders in tomorrow’s Amy’s Big Canberra Bike Ride will eat more than half a ton of fruit – all supplied by Ziggy’s at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets and Belconnen Markets.
This is the sixth year Ziggy’s Market Fresh will supply fruit to riders on Amy’s Big Canberra Bike Ride. The fruit arrives early Sunday morning to be distributed to aid stations on course and stockpiled at the finish line for hungry riders looking for a healthy energy boost.
Ken Irvine represents the third generation of fruiterers in this family owned business and his sons the fourth. He says it’s become a tradition to supply the fruit that helps riders to pedal the full distance.
“We’re really happy to be involved. The Amy Gillett Foundation and Pedal Power are both great organisations and we’re proud to play a role.”
Sunday’s riders are expected to eat their way through more than half a ton of seasonal fruit.
Amy’s Big Canberra Bike Ride is on Sunday 2 March 2014. You can register at the Event Hub at Federation Mall (on the lawns in front of Parliament House) from 12 noon to 4pm on Saturday and 6.30am to 7.45am on Sunday morning.
It is run by Pedal Power ACT in conjunction with the Amy Gillett Foundation. There are four rides to choose from – 20km, 35km, 68km and 110km.
