Upcoming Further Horizons rides:
Contact: Jenny Cleaver for more information
Saturday 20th October
Meet at Edison Park, Launceston St, Woden, at 8.15 for 8.30 am start. We’ll ride towards the city via the Mint and Yarralumla and over Commonwealth Ave bridge. Taking the anti clockwise direction we'll head towards the Aboretum and ziz zag our way to the café for a well earned coffee break. The fun bit comes next as we charge down the road at our own pace and re-group at the bottom of the hill. The extra climb to Dairy Farmers Hill is optional. Return to the main bike path and home via the Molonglo valley and Weston. Should be about 35km with a few short hills, and nearly all on cycle paths.
Further Horizons is a cycling group aiming at graduates of New Horizons, to keep them riding in a supportive and non-competitive atmosphere.
We generally ride 30 - 40km at an average speed of 15 - 19km/hr, and mostly on cycle paths or quiet roads. We continue the New Horizons behaviours by continuing to ride on Saturday mornings, calling out about approaching riders/pedestrians or problems to the others in the group, and we have a clear leader and tail to keep the group together.
Each week has a new leader and a different route, allowing participants to explore parts of Canberra that they wouldn't otherwise ride, and to share routes that they know and love. Participants are not limited to New Horizons graduates, but people interested in joining should understand that we travel as a group, with frequent stops, and with the emphasis on socialising and having fun.
