Upcoming Further Horizons rides:
Contact: Jenny Cleaver for more information
Saturday 23rd June
Meet at The National Museum of Australia carpark (at the entrance end) at 8:45 for a 9am start – note the later start for mid-winter!! We will ride through the ANU and along Sullivan’s creek all the way to Lyneham and then out through Kaleen to William Slim Drive and then back to Lake Ginninderra and coffee. On the way back we’ll make our way through Macquarie to the top of Bindubi street and roll down the path to Lake Burley Griffin and along back to the Museum. Distance about 30 km.
Further Horizons is a cycling group aiming at graduates of New Horizons, to keep them riding in a supportive and non-competitive atmosphere.
We generally ride 30 – 40km at an average speed of 15 – 19km/hr, and mostly on cycle paths or quiet roads. We continue the New Horizons behaviours by continuing to ride on Saturday mornings, calling out about approaching riders/pedestrians or problems to the others in the group, and we have a clear leader and tail to keep the group together.
Each week has a new leader and a different route, allowing participants to explore parts of Canberra that they wouldn’t otherwise ride, and to share routes that they know and love. Participants are not limited to New Horizons graduates, but people interested in joining should understand that we travel as a group, with frequent stops, and with the emphasis on socialising and having fun.
