Whether you want to cycle to work or just for fun and fitness – a bike rider’s best asset is confidence.
Pedal Power’s award-winning New Horizons course will help you improve your cycling skills and become a more confident rider. You will learn:
- Cycling technique
- How to look after your bike
- How to choose gear and accessories
- Loading your bike on a bus
- Body care for cyclists
This nine-week course is led by accredited coaches and experienced cyclists, combining practical evening workshops and morning weekday/weekend rides on shared bike paths and quiet roads. New Horizons suits those who are able to ride short distances and are looking to build up their skills, fitness and confidence to tackle longer rides. We’ll help you get from 5 km to 50 km and have a great time along the way!
Bike Culture is a supporting partner of Pedal Power’s New Horizons and our preferred bike mechanic on the north side for participants needing to have their bike serviced. The team at Gungahlin Bike Culture help deliver our bike maintenance sessions and kindly provide their shop as a venue. Bike Culture offers a free 15-minute’ bike comfort fit’ for all New Horizons participants during the period of their course.

To participate in New Horizons you need:
- a bicycle in good working order;
- a helmet that is under 3 years old, undamaged and complies with the Australian/New Zealand standards;
- to be able to ride a bike (but that need not be very far or with much confidence);
- willing to learn by participation;
- to want to improve riding knowledge techniques and proficiency.
