Ride Leaders
This section of the website gives guidance to members to develop, advertise and/or lead rides or events to assist in enabling group cycling to continue as a pleasurable, safe and largely voluntary activity. It is a summary of best practice accumulated by Pedal Power and others over many years.
Where Pedal Power ACT has specific rules, or requirements for insurance purposes, they are published on this website.
Leisure cycling is inherently safe and has a safety record that allows Pedal Power and its volunteers to have very little to fear from threats of negligence or liability.
To avoid legal claims: Be well organised, supportive and structured. Present yourself in a way that shows that you (and Pedal Power) are not negligent in your approach to safety and quality issues.
A Pedal Power event (fully referred to as a special event) is a ride advertised to the public, conducted wholly or partly on a road (or a road-related area such as a car park), requires special traffic management arrangements, usually involves a large number of participants and/or spectators and may disrupt normal traffic flow. Events usually have an entrance fee. (Currently this section does not address events).
A Pedal Power ride is not an event and does not have an entry fee, and can comprise: Day rides such as A local ride around the bike paths and/or local roads A day ride to some location around the ACT A day ride starting away from the ACT Overnight rides such as A week-end away ride A longer away ride Or something else you think would appeal to others
