Celebrate the shortest day of the year and the sun’s climb back towards summer by enjoying an invigorating afternoon ride, a steady climb up Mt Stromlo, a banquet dinner at Scope Cafe and then a ride home as the moon sets.
Organised by Pedal Power in conjunction with other Canberra cycling groups.
Pick your start:
- Civic (Acton Ferry Terminal)
- Woden (in Eddison Park car park opposite Canberra College)
- organise your own ride and join us at Mt Stromlo, or
- heaven forbid, drive there to join us.
The date of each ride is advertised well in advance.
Sunset is usually around 5 pm and moonset around 8.30 pm. So there is very little moon light for the ride home; you must have good front and rear lights that will last up to three hours.
Order of ceremonies
3.30 pm arrive at the Acton Ferry Terminal or Eddison Park in Woden. Organised rides have designated leaders. Arrive and meet your leader ready to start at 4.00
5.00 pm arrive at Scope Cafe. Receive a warming glass of gluwein while watching sunset over the mountains. Non-riders should also arrive at this time.
5.30 pm Banquet dinner. The menu varies year by year but it is always delicious. Vegetarians and those with gluten-free diets are catered for. Drinks can be bought from a cash bar, so don’t bother carrying bottles up the hill.
8.00 pm Ride back to your start and/or home as the moon sets. Or invite a friend to dinner who can give you a lift home.
Costs are advertised before each ride.
Riders and non-riders pay the same amount.
Cost for Pedal Power members is less than for non-members. So join Pedal Power.
Booking arrangements are notified before each ride.
Numbers are limited so you will need to get in early.
