Library of Rides
Canberra, the Australian Capital Territory and the surrounding countryside are among the best areas in Australia for recreational cycling. The capital itself has the largest cycle-path network of any city in Australia, and riders of all ages and ablities can visit the city's many points of interest without having to venture onto the roads.
Outside the city, quiet and little travelled roads fan out through the region to attractions such as the ruggedly beautiful Brindabella Mountains and the historic village of Gundaroo. Further afield lie the spectacular Fitzroy Falls, the South Coast and the grandeur of the Australian Alps.
The The Pedal Power Rides Report Library is intended to introduce all cyclists, from the novice to the experienced tourist, to some of the many possible rides in the area.
Pedal Power Rides Library - ride descriptions contributed by Pedal Power members.
The ride experience will be enhanced if you also have the Pedal Power RED book of rides , "Cycle Canberra" and/or the Canberra Cycleways Map, both available from our commerce pages, which will open again on Jan 8,2007 and also from good bike shops. Some rides in the previously forested areas may not be open to the public due to the bushfires.
Many nature park tracks SHOULD NOT BE RIDDEN when the tracks are WET. Special CARE also needs to be taken if riding (especially in remote areas) on days of TOTAL FIRE BAN. Don't become a problem for Emergency Services, be sure to carry plenty of water and tell someone where you plan to be.
Note: new maps with authorised cycle trails for sensitive areas in the Canberra Nature Park will soon be listed in the library.
