Bike racks on buses at risk of failure
The ACT Government has purchased twenty six new extra long buses which may not be able to be fitted with bike racks. Pedal Power issued a press release last week expressing concern that this could seriously undermine the Bike’n’Ride scheme. For more information, including how to register your concern with Ministers, please use the following link.

Fitz's Challenge Brochure: 31 Oct
Inside this week’s Canberra Cyclist magazine you will find a brochure with details of Fitz’s Challenge – Pedal Power’s premier event of the year. Please pass the brochure onto others who may be interested -- family, friends, work colleagues, etc. More copies of the brochure are available from the office at office@pedalpower.org.au - ask for some to be posted out. Help us get as many riders as possible for this exciting event.
Bundanoon Breakaway - 17, 18 and 19 September: Entries Closing
The Bundanoon weekend is on again this year - two days of exploring the beauty of the NSW Southern Highlands on your bicycle. Surrounded by forests, canyons and natural water features, the Highlands region is a great way to enjoy a weekend of cycling with fellow Pedal Power members. For more details, including how to register, go to the Pedal Power web site at: http://www.pedalpower.org.au/events/details.asp?IntContId=3727, or Ring Chris Mann on 0413 294 248. Get in quick as entries are closing.
Spring Mountain Tour: 9-23 October
Pedal Power will be running the annual spring mountain tour over two weeks in October through the remote and scenic country south of Jindabyne into Gippsland touching on the coast at Cape Conran near Orbost and returning via the mountains in Eastern Gippsland. It is a self-catering event with a support vehicle and trailer to carry luggage. Full camping gear and a mountain bike or touring bike with low gears required. Those interested may contact Richard Bush on 0427 245 232. Numbers are limited but a few vacancies are available.
Fix up your cycling route
If you know of any hazards or impediments to a safe cycling route (e.g. potholes, tree bumps or lack of pram ramps) please send in your request for action to Canberra Connect's Customer Services site www.contact.act.gov.au/app/home under "ask a question" category “Transport, Roads and Traffic”. Bookmark or add this as a Favourite now, so it is always handy. Reporting is even easier if you set up an "account". You can now attach a photograph to illustrate the problem area or mark the spot on a Canberra map on the site. You could also phone them on 132281. Remember to request removal of broken glass on this site too!
