Description:
Choose a clear day for this ride to take advantage of the great views after an energetic ascent of Mt Rogers in the middle of Fraser.
The start/finish area offers a pleasant environment and facilities for an end-of ride picnic or barbecue.
From Diddams Close, pass under the Ginninderra Drive Bridge and follow the cycle path a little way along the lake until there is a left fork which takes you to an underpass under William Slim Drive. Then turn left and continue ahead.
After an underpass beneath William Webb Drive you'll have Ginninderra Creek on your left for about 1.5 km, which will bring you to yet another underpass - under Copeland Drive. Once through this you immediately turn right (northwards) to the intersection with Verbrughan St. A little way to the right along this street is the cycle underpass which leads northwards to the green belt behind Copeland College and beyond up to the Alpen St underpass. Shortly after this underpass there is a major left fork which takes you under Kingsford Smith Drive.
Continue climbing fairly steadily and you will come out on top of Mt Rogers. There are quite a few gravel roads around the top to take you to the various vantage points for views in all directions. The access road to get to the trig station is near the north-east comer of the hill.
A different return route can be found through the green-belts of Spence, Evatt and McKellar, heading south-eastward using the latest edition of the Canberra Cycleways Map.
