Map: Location Map (Ride No 15, then 13 or 14) and detailed Map 10 and Map 11 of ride
Starting Point: Family Court, University Ave, City
Description: These rides along the northern foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin are alternatives to Commuter Rides 13 and 14 which take cyclists around the southern shore. The two routes described here for Commuter Ride 15 are convenient for riders who work on the western side of City, and are slightly shorter than the southern routes to the Woden Town Centre.
The initial stage of each is the same as that for Commuter Rides 13 and 14 until you reach the bottom of the Parkes Way overpass. At this point turn right instead of left and cycle along the lake shore to ride through a tunnel (right) and climb to cross Liversidge St. The cycleway descends to the lake and continues for a short period before rising to cross Sullivans Creek at Parkes Way.
It runs along in an undulating fashion, passing the Belconnen Town Centre turnoff at Lady Denman Dr. after 4.7 km, and proceeding through grassland and forest to cross Scrivener Dam. It continues through a tunnel beneath Lady Denman Dr., then meets the Weston Creek turnoff (right) which takes you on to the Woden Town Centre. By now you have ridden about 8.3 km. The second Woden Town Centre turnoff, also on the right, is about 300 metres further on past the junction with the Weston Creek path.
See Commuter Rides 13 and 14 for descriptions of the cycleway routes to the Woden Town Centre beyond the turn-offs.
