Red Hill Ride:
Access from the Lake Burley Griffin bike paths.

Depending upon where you are coming from, there are two straightforward routes from Lake Burley Griffin to the Red Hill ride ( see map of area):

1. From the west, the most direct route is to leave the bike path at the YMCA Yacht Club and ride 2.7 km along Hopetoun Circuit, which heads south through Yarralumla and Deakin, climbing steadily under Adelaide Avenue, past the Deakin shops, bearing left at the first roundabout on to Stonehaven Crescent, then up a short rise to the second roundabout with its "Red Hill Lookout" sign, close to the start of the ride.

2. From the east, the most convenient route from the lake shore is to take any road or footpath past the National Gallery of Australia,   the High Court, National Science and Technology Centre (Questacon) and Australian National Library towards the white Old Parliament House . Skirt around the building and head uphill along Federation Mall, over State Circle and Capital Circle to join the rectangular Parliament Drive around the Parliament House. Continue around the huge building, with its spectacular stainless steel flagpole, and exit Parliament Drive left onto Melbourne Avenue. Crossing State Circle at traffic lights, Melbourne Avenue turns into a wide lightly trafficked boulevard lined with stately old eucalyptus trees. Continue uphill towards the distant Red Hill until the roundabout is reached at Stonehaven Crescent, close to the start of the ride (3.8 km).
