Canberra will be host to a feast of bike-themed films as The Big Bike Film Night and the Cycle Chic Film Tour return to the National Sound and Film Archive this week.

Pedal Power ACT is pleased to support the screenings of these two fantastic film collections. We know Canberra has a strong cycling community and there’s a real appetite for events like this that celebrate the diversity of cycle culture.

After successful screenings at their inaugural visit last year, we are really pleased to have the festival back in Canberra with fresh new collections of short films showcasing cycle stories from around the world.

The collections have been brought to Australia by New Zealand based Curator and ‘Film Pedlar’ Brett Cotter after sell out screenings in New Zealand.

“Our vision is to share the best cycling short films from around the world that celebrate the fun, adventure and inspiration of cycling,” said Mr Cotter. “There is some cool stuff here I think everyone should see, and it will certainly whet your appetite for all things bicycle related”.

The Big Bike Film Night celebrates the passion of cycling in all its shapes and forms from mountain bikes journeys across the harsh desert landscapes of Oma; to a world record attempt for the longest continuous bike ride on a single speed fixed-gear bicycle; the remarkable story of touring with a Cello on a cargo bicycle; and an epic six day bike-pack raft expedition.

The Cycle Chic Film Tour is a collection to inspire, encourage and celebrate courageous women who love to bike, who push boundaries, , and are advocates for change through the power of the humble bicycle. The films feature a diverse range of women from a ‘community mother’ who runs bike training for refugee women in Amsterdam; to “bad-ass” American BMXers and Nepali women spreading the joy of mountain biking across the Himalayas.

The Cycle Chic Film Tour is screening on Monday 27th August, 7pm and The Big Bike Film Night screens on Tuesday 28th August , 7pm, both at the NFSA  in Canberra.  For more information and to purchase tickets go to www.bigbikefilmnight.nz  or visit the NFSA.
