Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry will open four new mountain bike trails at Cotter Pines on Saturday 10 July at 10am.
These trails have been built through a unique collaboration between Canberra’s oldest volunteer trail building group, Kowalski Brothers Trailworks, leading local trail building firm, Iconic Trails and supported by Pedal Power ACT and ACT Parks and Conservation Service. The ACT Government provided funding assistance through the Sport and Recreation Capital Assistance Program.
This collaboration has enabled the fast tracking of new trail infrastructure in the Cotter Trails Precinct and added valuable distance to this new and emerging ride destination.
Alan Vogt, coordinator of the Kowalski Brothers is proud of what has been achieved so far. “We were delighted to attract a second grant through Sport and Recreation’s Capital Assistance Program to help us expand the trail network at Cotter,” he said. “These new trails demonstrate what can be achieved through a collaborative approach – where community and commercial inputs come together to deliver a recreation asset. Cotter is becoming a popular part of Canberra’s riding landscape and will become an important driver for tourism and trail-based recreation for locals alike.”
Iconic Trails’ Director, Garreth Paton said “We are proud to be part of this initiative and are delighted at how the trails have turned out. With the explosive growth in off road cycling there is such strong demand for more trails and new places to ride. I think this collaborative approach to trail building could be the way of the future to build quality trails while keeping to a tighter budget.”
Pedal Power CEO, Ian Ross said “Pedal Power congratulates the ACT government on the strategic investment at Cotter Pines over the last two years. The trails are well designed and awesomely fun to ride. They are a testament to what can be achieved when a passionate group of volunteers are supported by machinery and the expertise of a progressive trail building company like Iconic. Pedal Power is proud of our collaboration with the Kowalski Brothers volunteer group in growing Cotter Pines Trails”.

The opening ceremony will be held at the start of EAGLE ROCK trail at 10am. Parking is at the top gate of Cotter Pines on Brindabella Road.
