Pedal Power stall at the Folk Festival a big success

Pedal Power staff and volunteers had a fantastic time at the Folk Festival over the long weekend, running the Pedal Power stall and bike parking, as well as immersing themselves in folk culture.

“We used our time on the stall to provide information about Pedal Power membership and cycling, handing out our very popular Canberra cycling maps, and of course providing free bike parking” says Pedal Power Membership and Community Organiser Jordan Hull.

Festival attendees were interested to hear about all the wonderful member benefits Pedal Power has to offer including insurance, advocacy work and social rides.

“We were so glad to be able to offer a safe and convenient spot inside the festival gates for attendees to park their bikes.” Says Jordan “This is clearly a much-needed service as we had over 120 Folk Festival attendees use the service, despite it not being the best weather for cycling”.

The EPIC showground doesn’t have an adequate number of bike racks to be able to cater for such a big festival, particularly not inside the gates.

As Canberra’s biggest events venue, the ACT Government should install secure bike parking facilities so people can feel comfortable riding their bikes to all the events held at EPIC.

“Big shout out to all 30 Pedal Power members who braved the cold and rainy weather to volunteer on our stall,” Says Jordan “and to Mark Crawford and Peter Gamble for helping with all the behind-the-scenes work. We couldn’t have pulled this off without you all.

We can’t wait to return to the Folk Festival next year!”
