The Big Canberra Bike Ride is Canberra’s annual celebration of cycling, and the capital’s largest mass participation ride.

This non-competitive event brings together hundreds of riders of all ages and abilities, offering a unique opportunity to cycle on closed roads through the heart of Canberra alongside other happy riders.

All routes will start and finish at the event hub at the Albert Hall.

History

The Big Canberra Bike Ride was first held on 15 March 1999 to promote cycling in the nation’s capital.  The event was held in mid-March to align with the anniversary of the founding of Canberra (12 March 1913).  The first Big Canberra Bike Ride offered a single route through the City and Dickson.  As the event grew in popularity the ride options have expanded:  two routes were offered in 2011, and in 2012 this expanded to four.  The Big Canberra Bike Ride is now Canberra’s most iconic cycling event with a range of routes to cater for riders of all skills, interests, and abilities.

Volunteer with us

The Big Canberra Bike Ride simply would not be possible without our wonderful Pedal Power volunteers.
