Tandem training

Pilot a tandem bike or trishaw

Riding a bike is something that everyone should have the chance to experience.

However, it’s not always an activity in which everyone can participate without some assistance.

Our Fitability and Cycling Without Age programs help make cycling more inclusive and accessible, and we are always looking for more volunteers to help bring the joy of cycling to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to ride, due to age, illness or disability.

If you are passionate about cycling and want to give something back to the community, why not become a volunteer pilot and share your love of riding with others?

Pilot a tandem bike

The Fitability tandem cycling program offers cycling opportunities to people with vision impairment and other disabilities.

Fitability has an informal ride program, regularly pairing up tandem pilots and stokers for rides in and around the Canberra region.

If you are confident on your bike and enjoy riding with others you might like to become a tandem pilot! You can ride on an occasional or regular basis, and our Fitability volunteers will provide you with training and support, as well as a range of tandem bikes to suit most riders.

As a tandem pilot I get immense satisfaction from sharing the joy of cycling with sight-impaired members of my community. It provides me with a strong sense of community engagement and an increased level of motivation to improve my fitness and achieve my personal goals as well as developing friendships in the Canberra community.

Pilot a trishaw

The Cycling Without Age program provides free trishaw rides to people living in aged care. It is part of a global movement which aims to help elderly people with limited mobility get back on their bicycles. Here in Canberra, our volunteer pilots conduct trishaw rides in Belconnen and Weston Creek

We would love to welcome more trishaw pilots to our team.

If you are a confident rider and would like to ride with elderly people, you might like to become a trishaw pilot! You can pilot on an occasional or regular basis, and our Cycling Without Age team will provide you with the individual training and support you need. In particular, we are looking for volunteers who are available for weekday rides.
