By Linda Laker, Pedal Power Board Secretary
At the first meeting of the newly constituted 2022 Board in April, new member Jill Walker was appointed Treasurer and Linda Laker was appointed Secretary. The Board also held a very productive strategy session earlier in April to finalise Pedal Power’s next strategic plan for 2022-2024. Alongside that work, a thorough review of Pedal Power’s risk plan is in progress.
The Board recognised two recent advocacy highlights which have been a very long time in the making: passing of negligent driving legislation and the Ministerial Statement on Active Travel. Pedal Power’s advocacy has had a significant impact in achieving both of these outcomes. And your advocacy teams will be continuing to pursue delivery of the Minister’s commitments.
The Board is very pleased Pedal Power is partnering with Marisa Paterson MLA to hold a forum focusing on women’s participation in cycling. It’s also going to involve ACT Policing and the ACT Government through Transport Canberra and City Services. The forum aims to address barriers to women cycling and encourage more active travel. Keep watching News Wheel and follow our Facebook page for more details about the forum on Monday 6 June.
The Board also considered feedback on the Team App (used by all our social riders). The office is now looking at whether improvements can be made to lessen administration for ride leaders and enhance usability for our members.
