Big Skills For Small Bikes
A learn-to-ride course for kids aged 3–8 and their grown-ups
To build lifelong cycling habits, we need to start young, yet many parents don’t have the time or confidence to teach their kids how to ride. That’s where we come in.
Big Skills for Small Bikes is a fun, hands-on course that teaches parents and carers how to help their children ride confidently and safely. Designed for beginners, this program is perfect for kids who are still learning to ride without assistance.
Course Overview
Ages: 3–8 years
Who attends: One adult per 1–2 children. Adults must attend and participate.
What you need: Children must bring their own balance or pedal bike and an Australian standards helmet. Adults do not need bikes.
When: School holidays
Where: Lyneham High School, 61 Goodwin St, Lyneham, ACT
Cost: $135 per child (adults attend for free)
Curriculum: Developed by a Cycling Australia coach

Mountain Bike Skills Course
Build confidence on the trails – for riders aged 9+
Ready to level up your riding? Thanks to support from the Gungahlin Village Community Kickstart Grant, this course introduces young riders (and their grown-ups!) to the core techniques of mountain biking in a safe and exciting environment.
With expert coaching and 4 action-packed sessions, you'll develop the skills needed to ride off-road with confidence and control.
Course Overview
Ages: 9 years and older (adults welcome too!)
Format: 4 x 1.5-hour sessions
Timing: Multiple session times available
Cost: $50 per rider
Location: Centenary Trail single tracks and fire roads (between Forde and Hall)
Trainer: Led by a qualified MTB skills coach

Ready position and bike handling basics
Foundational Mountain Biking Skills
Balance & body position for flat ground, climbing, and descents
Braking, gear use, and cadence control
Trail scanning and identifying safe lines and features

Trail Maneuvers
Front and rear wheel lifts
Hopping and roll-downs
Pedal-assisted lifts for small obstacles
