Brindabella Advocacy Digest
A number of important active travel projects are progressing across the Brindabella electorate, with several now under construction while Pedal Power continues advocating for safer, more connected cycling infrastructure.
Athllon Drive Duplication
The Athllon Drive Duplication remains one of the electorate's largest transport projects. Construction funding has been committed, and enabling works, including wider shared paths and improved lighting, have already been completed.
Pedal Power's submission focused on improving cycling safety through better crossings and intersections. We continue to advocate for the planned Sulwood Drive underpass to be delivered as part of the project, as well as safer treatment of slip lanes and priority crossings for people riding along the C5 route. While the development application has been approved, we remain concerned that several active travel recommendations were not incorporated and will continue raising these issues with the government.
Monaro Highway Upgrades
Stage 1 of the Monaro Highway upgrades is currently under construction and is expected to finish by the end of 2026. Unfortunately, no off-road shared path has been included in this stage.
Future stages are proposed to include an off-road path through Hume, but currently provide no connection north of Hume or to Chisholm, with no confirmed delivery timeframe. Pedal Power will continue advocating for these missing links to ensure the corridor serves people travelling by bike as well as by car.
New Path Connections Underway
Several smaller but important projects are now progressing across Tuggeranong:
New path extensions along Anketell Street between Pittman Street and Athllon Drive, and between the two intersections with Cynthia Teague Crescent, have now progressed to construction.
The C4 bridge upgrade behind Mitchell Holt Crescent in Gordon has also been funded for construction.
Construction has commenced on the new wombat crossing on Boddington Crescent.
Safety improvements across Kambah, including speed reductions and pedestrian upgrades, are also underway.
These projects will improve local connectivity and make walking and cycling safer throughout the district.
Drakeford Drive (C4)
Pedal Power continues supporting upgrades along the C4 corridor on Drakeford Drive.
The project includes improving crossings to give greater priority to people using the shared path network while removing outdated bollards at Barr Smith Avenue, Hurtle Avenue and Woodcock Avenue. This corridor remains one of the Brindabella advocacy team's priority projects.
Tuggeranong Town Centre and Creek Connections
Pedal Power continues advocating for stronger active travel links throughout Tuggeranong Town Centre.
Key priorities include:
Upgrading the Tuggeranong Creek shared path between Chisholm and the Town Centre.
Improving connections to Chisholm Shops and the Monaro Highway.
Delivering active travel links through Erindale Group Centre in line with the Erindale Master Plan.
Improving the path connection between Erindale and Tuggeranong Town Centre.
Ensuring future town centre developments deliver promised cycling connections, including the proposed footbridge across Tuggeranong Creek associated with new development.
While many of these projects remain at the planning stage, Pedal Power will continue working with government to ensure active travel infrastructure is delivered alongside future development.
Thank You
Pedal Power would like to thank Harvey Bell, Brindabella Advocacy Coordinator, for his ongoing dedication to improving cycling and active travel across the Brindabella electorate. His work monitoring projects, preparing submissions and engaging with government helps ensure the needs of people riding bikes continue to be represented.
