Ride for Change – Pedal Power’s 50th Anniversary

To mark 50 years of Pedal Power advocacy, we’re inviting the Canberra cycling community to join a special Celebration Ride from Woden to Civic. This ride commemorates Pedal Power’s first protest ride in 1974, which helped shape the city’s cycling future, and highlights the ongoing need for separated bike lanes to make Canberra safer and more liveable.

The ride will take place on Thursday, 13 November 2025, starting at Eddison Park, Woden. Cyclists will gather from 5:30pm, with the ride departing at 6:00pm. The route is approximately 8 kilometres, set at a gentle pace to welcome entry-level riders and families.

The ride will be led by John Widdup and supported by accredited ride leaders, who will act as marshals to ensure everyone’s safety. The ride finishes at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park, where participants can join in the 50th anniversary celebrations with food, fun, and festivities.

Whilst we have changed the name to the Celebration Ride, our purpose remains constant: the desire for the betterment of Canberra’s bike lanes. This ride represents the desire for change. As the Light Rail enters phase 2B, we must ensure there is a separate bike lane for cyclists riding from Woden.

Ride with us to celebrate, for change and to stand in solidarity together as not only members of Pedal Power but as residents of Canberra.
