From Canberra Avenue to Canberra Avenue: Connor completes epic cycling journey
After cycling more than 18,000 kilometres across three continents, Scottish adventurer Connor McElwaine has reached his final destination: Canberra Avenue in Canberra.
Connor began his journey on 11 September 2025 from Canberra Avenue in Clydebank, Glasgow, the street where his grandparents lived and where many of his childhood adventures began.
Carrying everything he needed on his bike, Connor travelled through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, China, Southeast Asia and Australia. Along the way, he crossed remote deserts, climbed mountain passes and experienced communities and cultures around the world.
On Wednesday, 9 September, a group of local riders met Connor at Hall to accompany him on the final stretch of his remarkable journey. Together, they rode into central Canberra, stopping at Parliament House before reaching Canberra Avenue.
The ride-in was organised by Pedal Power member’s Marie and Luke Wensing to help give Connor a safe and memorable welcome to the capital.
Connor undertook the journey after leaving a decade-long career as a teacher and school leader. His adventure is raising funds for Venture Scotland, a Scottish charity that uses challenging outdoor experiences to help young adults build confidence and discover what they are capable of.
Connor thanked the riders for joining him and introducing him to Canberra. After thousands of kilometres on the road, it was a fitting finish and a wonderful example of Canberra’s cycling community coming together to make somebody’s final kilometres especially memorable.
