City in Motion: Construction Updates for Cyclist

1 Aug 2025

Last weekend’s rain lived up to its forecast and it was good that the road closure was postponed. At this time of year this is more likely to happen. Even a few days later, the below-ground works still look pretty damp.

At the time of writing, the forecast looks more positive for a road closure this weekend: and you can get the latest information from here.

You may still be affected by puddles, mud and general dampness if you choose to use the paths between the Allara St footbridge and the east side of the Commonwealth Avenue bridge behind the Archbishop’s house; This iss also a main thoroughfare for setting up Floriade so it’s likely to continue that way too.

Riding to the south of Vernon Circuit on Commonwealth Avenue, it is easy to see the progress that is being made and how much work is being done to make it look good. A couple of months ago this footpath beside the northbound lane was a deep trench with a large sewer and service conduits.

Looking up the eastern side of Commonwealth Avenue shows the wide bike path, nearly  ready.

The south west corner of London Circuit now looks calm and tidy instead of being a busy work site: it even has its own duck pond now.

It looks like the finishing touches on the south side of London Circuit are on the way and It should not be long before bikes will able to ride all the way round using bike paths.

Garema Place and City Walk

Although all the shops around Garema Place are still open with a path going around the edge the centre of the open space is almost completely dug up and fenced off.

You still have access to everywhere in Garema Place by foot or by bike; it just doesn’t look that way.

Can you help? Road and route closures and traffic congestion will change often. If you see anything that you think should be mentioned here, please call or email Pedal Power (communications@pedalpower.org.au) and help us to keep this regular bulletin up to date. Thank you!
