A Message From The Executive Director

Cecily Michaels | Executive Director | Pedal Power ACT

Shaping Our Future – Together

At Pedal Power, our strength lies in our community - members, volunteers, supporters, and stakeholders who all play a part in creating a more bike-friendly Canberra. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be reaching out in two important ways to help shape the direction of our work, and I’d love your input.

Why We’re Tracking Volunteer Hours

If you’re one of our dedicated volunteers - thank you. You make Pedal Power what it is. From leading advocacy efforts and running rides, to fixing bikes at the Bike Library and supporting programs like Fitability and Cycling Without Age, your time and energy are invaluable.

We’ve recently begun contacting volunteers to start tracking hours. This helps us measure the true impact of our work.

We’ve received some excellent suggestions about how best to estimate and calculate hours for volunteers who have regular hours, and we’ll take those on board wherever we can to reduce how often we need to contact you. The monthly form really isn’t much of a form - it’s just a single box to enter a number, nothing more. The goal is to capture the hours we don’t already know about

If you’ve already responded to Ella’s email, thank you so much. And if you haven’t yet, we’d really appreciate your input. Every hour matters.

Membership and Stakeholder Survey – Coming Soon

We’re also about to launch our 2025 Membership and Stakeholder Survey, and this year we’re extending it beyond members to include the broader cycling community and our valued partners.

Whether you ride for transport, recreation, health, or fun — we want to hear from you.

This short survey will guide our future programs and inform our strategic planning. What do you value most about Pedal Power? What could we do better? What new initiatives should we consider — whether that’s more family rides, e-bike support, or help for new commuters?

The survey will launch on Tuesday 9 September, and everyone who completes it will have the chance to win a $300 voucher from The Canberra Cyclery. Simply enter your name and email at the end to be in the draw.

Thanks for being part of the Pedal Power community. Together, we’re building something that matters.
