Murrumbidgee Advocacy Digest

What advocacy work has Pedal Power been doing across Canberra's south-west?

Our latest Murrumbidgee Advocacy Digest highlights progress on projects including the Woden to Civic Bikeway, Coombs Active Travel Bridge, North Curtin development, Woden Town Centre planning and more.

We've also been advocating for better connections to Southlands and the timely repair of the Yarralumla Creek cycling bridge following storm damage earlier this year.

Advocating for Better Bus and Bike Integration

Pedal Power recently met with Transport Canberra to discuss opportunities to improve the integration of cycling and public transport across the ACT.

The discussion covered a range of issues raised by members, including bus-mounted bicycle racks, access for children’s bicycles, bicycle storage facilities at interchanges, MyWay+ information, and practical challenges experienced by users of the new bicycle cage at Woden Interchange.

Pedal Power will continue advocating for practical improvements that make it easier for people to combine cycling and public transport across Canberra.

Your Presence Matters: Be Part of History - Join the Ride

Join us for our landmark event, the highlight of our 50th anniversary year, our Celebration and Demonstration Ride on Thursday, 13 November 2025. This special ride will both honour our beginnings and call for a separated bike lane along Adelaide Avenue between Woden and Civic before Light Rail Stage 2B construction begins.

But this isn’t just a ride, it’s a message. A message that safe cycling infrastructure must remain a priority. Your presence will help make that message heard loud and clear. When hundreds of riders come together, we show the strength, unity and visibility of Canberra’s cycling community - a community that continues to shape the city’s future, just as it did 50 years ago.

Advocacy Watch: Cycling Advocacy in the Murrumbigee Electorate

In Woden, we’ve been busy advocating for safer, more connected cycling routes as the town centre transforms. From pushing for end-of-trip facilities and slow-speed streets in the new Woden Village to fixing the notorious Matilda Street bikeway blockage, we’re making cycling easier and safer. Wins so far include the upgraded Melrose Drive underpass and the freshly resurfaced C4 path between Mawson and the town centre. With exciting projects ahead – like the Molonglo River recreational loop, the long-awaited bridge at Coombs, and light rail stage 2B – we’re keeping cycling front and centre in Woden’s future.

Discover what they’ve achieved so far and what’s next for cycling in Woden.
