Ginninderra Advocacy Digest

There continues to be steady progress across a number of active travel projects and advocacy priorities in Ginninderra, with several long-advocated path connections and upgrades advancing into planning, design, and construction.

Key Updates Across Ginninderra

Construction has officially commenced on the William Hovell Drive duplication project, including associated off-road path improvements that will strengthen east–west cycling connections across Belconnen.

Further west, feasibility work is expected to begin soon for the Southern Cross Drive path extension toward Kingsford Smith Drive, progressing an important missing link in the West Belconnen path network.

Around Lake Ginninderra, design and construction tenders have now been released for Stage 2 of the Lake Ginninderra path upgrades, including improvements in the Diddams Close and Emu Bank areas.

Construction also continues on new and upgraded shared paths along Kuringa Drive and Kingsford Smith Drive as part of the broader Belconnen path network improvements program.

The Kippax Playing Fields missing link path to the Southern Cross Drive underpass remains at the feasibility stage, with delivery currently expected to be funded in 2028–29.

Pedal Power also welcomed the successful Legislative Assembly motion supporting the West Belconnen Trunk Path, with the ACT Government committing to report back on progress and consult Pedal Power as work develops.

Works associated with the Drake Brockman Drive duplication and the continued growth of Ginninderry are also expected to progress through 2026, with ongoing advocacy for safe active travel connections and the reduction of missing links in the area.

In addition, the ACT Government has announced several new Ginninderra projects under the 2026–27 Black Spot Program.

Other Advocacy Areas Being Monitored

Pedal Power advocates continue monitoring and engaging on a range of additional projects and local issues across the electorate, including:

  • Shared path upgrades associated with Belconnen busway planning work

  • Directional signage improvements on the C3A path between Charnwood and Belconnen Town Centre

  • Ongoing path access concerns around the Gundaroo Drive bridge at Owen Dickson Drive

  • School Safety Program infrastructure rollouts

  • Cross-border active travel implications associated with the Ginninderry/Parkwood developments

  • Lathlain Street precinct works and active travel integration

  • Improved lighting along the main shared path corridor through Kaleen

  • Additional wombat crossings along the C5 route through Cook and Macquarie to improve safety and priority for people walking and riding

Advocates also note that there have not yet been any formal site consultations held this year within Ginninderra, though several projects continue to move through the planning, procurement, and early delivery stages.

Pedal Power thanks Ginninderra advocates Mirek and Rob for their ongoing work monitoring local projects and representing riders across the electorate.
