Hank’s Heartwarming Homages 🚲💛

If you’ve ever wondered what happens to a bike after it’s been donated to the Bike Library, Hank van Apeldoorn has the answer and probably a smile to go with it.

Hank is one of our dedicated Bike Library volunteers, and his is picking up and dropping off bikes that have been donated. But here’s the thing Hank’s gone the extra mile (or three). Recently, he started sending updates to the generous people who donate their bikes, letting them know they have arrived at the Bike Library and adding a heartfelt thank-you message for their kindness.

It’s the sort of thing no one asked him to do, but that’s exactly why it’s so special. It turns what could be just another handover into a moment of joy for both the giver and the receiver. Thanks to Hank, people don’t just know their old bike has a new home they get to picture it being ridden, loved, and part of someone else’s adventures.

It’s a small gesture, but it reminds us how much warmth and connection can come from even the simplest acts of volunteering. Hank’s updates may not be “necessary” but the smiles they spark are absolutely essential.

Thank you, Hank, for proving that sometimes the best part of giving isn’t just the gift itself, but the story that comes with it. 🌟
