National Ride2Work Day Returned to Canberra

After a six-year pause, National Ride2Work Day returned to Canberra with full force on Wednesday 15 October, reigniting the city’s cycling spirit and reminding everyone how good it feels to start the day on two wheels.

Pedal Power was delighted to host the event once again, with guided rides from across Canberra converging on Veterans Park for a community breakfast. More than 120 riders registered, with many more joining on the day excited to take part in the community celebration. It was an absolutely beautiful spring day for a ride, and the city centre was alive with colour, conversation, and the sound of freewheeling bikes.

We were joined by Pedal Power members, everyday commuters, and riders from the wider cycling community, including representatives from the Austrian and Finnish embassies. Special thanks go to MLAs Shane Rattenbury, Jo Clay and Andrew Braddock, who all showed their support by leading rides into the city. Tom Emerson also attended and joined in the celebrations.

The breakfast atmosphere was lifted by Paris Lord from Canberra By Bike, who provided the music, while a wonderful team of Pedal Power volunteers kept everything running smoothly. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped on the day, including David, Geoff, John, Rob, Mike, Michelle, and Mark, for making the morning such a success. We’d also like to thank our volunteer ride leaders, Ruslan, David, Jeff, and the West Belco Bike Bus crew, who guided riders safely into the city and created such a welcoming start to the day.

Participants enjoyed croissants, pastries, fruit, and coffee from Capital Eatery, with many taking the chance to get a quick bike check and chat with fellow riders. Our thanks also to The Ride Shop Braddon and Mojo Cycles for their generous prize donations and hands-on support on the day.

Congratulations to our prize winners:
