Community Spotlight: Bike Library’s Working Bee Day
On Saturday, 27 September, we held a working bee at the Bike Library from 9 am to 2 pm to clean up the bike shed and undertake a thorough review of the bikes we were storing. It was a big task, and I’m very grateful to everyone who came along and helped:
Peter Elford
Ian & Cora Wallis
Gregg Berry
Graeme Hoy
Baldev
Ben Damyon
David Austin
Sari and Andri Marhen
I'd particularly like to thank Ian and Cora Wallis for organising labels and coming along with drinks and a plan, and those who came along to the library for the first time.
Over 120 bikes were moved out of the shed and triaged to identify which bikes were "ready to go" and easily repairable, and which ones would take too long or too much effort to repair. In the end, around 50 bikes were stripped of useful parts and taken to metal recycling, meaning we had lots more space in the bike shed to sort the bikes by size, ready for use.
The Bike Library is in much better shape thanks to this great team effort.
Call To Action:
If you have a spare bicycle and do not use it anymore, consider donating it to the Bike Library. The bikes are received and given great care, then further distributed to new cyclists who want to join the cycling community but have difficulty finding a new bike.
If you want more information on how to donate a bike, feel free to call us during business hours: (02) 6248 7995
