Celebrating our Advocacy Volunteers at the Volunteering ACT Awards
This week, Pedal Power had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Volunteering ACT Awards, where we proudly nominated our Advocacy Team for the Team Award. Volunteer Advocacy Coordinator Mike Watson, along with advocates Rob Dalitz, Assistant Coordinator for Ginnindera Electorate and Gregg Berry, Coordinator for Yerrabi Electorate, joined Executive Director Cecily Michaels to represent the extraordinary work of the team.
In 2025 alone, our advocacy volunteers contributed more than 900 hours to making Canberra a safer and more connected cycling city. Their work included preparing submissions to ACT Government budget and planning inquiries, influencing major infrastructure projects such as the Garden City, Kingston and Belconnen cycleways, and championing cycling as an accessible, safe and climate-positive mode of transport.
Although we weren’t among the award winners, it was genuinely uplifting to stand alongside so many groups and individuals who pour their energy into strengthening our community. The room was full of people driven by purpose, generosity and the belief that Canberra is at its best when volunteers lead the way.
For us, the evening wasn’t about the outcome. It was about acknowledging the remarkable commitment of our own volunteers and being counted among a community of people working hard for causes they care about. We are incredibly proud of our Advocacy Team and grateful for everything they do.
If you see Mike, Rob, Gregg or any of our dedicated advocates out on the paths, please join us in thanking them for their tireless work.
